My Influences

Hayao Miyazaki

One of my main influences for my work as well as my ambition to become an animator is Hayao Miyazaki who is a Japanese film director, producer, screenwriter, animator, author, and manga artist. He has created and worked on many inspriational animations including the likes of Howls moving castle, Princess Mononoke, Spirited away and My neighbour Toroto.

I love his use of the old traditional way of animating, everything is hand created and painted making it more ethentic in my opinion. His work brings a natural beauty to the animation industry and its rare to see these talents still being used today due to the amount of new technology that is avaialable.

Miyazaki’s story’s are also all keeping in line with japanease culture and the stories hold a pressence about them and almost make you believe your in a past fantasy life, I hope one day in the future my own work will have a magical touch to them just as his does.

Ladislas Starevich

Starevich is a huge opener to the stop motion industry, he almost stumbled across stop motion completely by accident. He was fasinated by stag beetles and wanted to film them fighting but in the conditions he was filming in, whenever he’d expose them to the light they would die therefore making it impossible for him to record them. After many failed attempts he came up with the idea to pose the dead insects as if they were fighting and so he had found a solution thus createing the film by useing stop motion. He then had the idea to make some more short films includeing insects such as ladybirds, grasshoppers etc and he created the idea of making similar skeletons to put inside the insects so he could move the insects in different positions.

I think his work is very inspriational as it also shows problem solving and gives a sense of never giving up and to achieve what you want you just have to try harder everytime you fail.

Lauren Faust

Faust is one of my inspriations due to her being involved in nearly everything i loved when i was a child from Fosters home for imaginary friends, Codename kids next door and My little pony: Friendship is magic. (Which is new but is not just for children to enjoy, the show has many young men and older men watching it and faust is proud of her male followers) I love cartoons and always have from a young age and they’ve always been a big part of my life, their fun, great stories and very artistic and most can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Faust is very talented in her work and her artistic skills are high too as she creates character designs as well as produceing things. I love the style of the cartoons she has worked on and most of them have always had a dark side to them e.g powerpuff girls used to really freak me out in some of the plot.

Telltale Games

Telltale is a game company that creates story choice based games where you play through a story but the choices you make have consequences and effects the game so the game changes based on what decisions you made. They have inspired me to get more into game design and has given me ideas to maybe go into game design and character development if my ambition changes.

I find their stories submersive and their usually based on a famous tv series so its almost like jumping into the world of the tv series you follow e.g the walking dead, game of thrones and The wolf amoung us.

Their defiantly up their with the best storie driven games in my opinion and i hope to see more games of theirs in the future so i can be inspired further.

RoosterTeeth is a youtube company that doing gaming and podcasts and post them on youtube for their viewers but then they created their own animation called “RWBY” created by Monty Oum. It started out as 5 min long episodes for season 1 but as they got more and more professinal and built up their fan base for RWBY it has now grown to nearly 30 min episodes. Their style of animation is unique and well put together and is simple yet so mezmuriseing.

Tim Burton

Now for one of my biggest inpriations, I it was’nt for this man and his amazing films that hes created or worked on then i dont think i would of been so interested in stop motion. Everyone of his films are beautifully presented, pretty and breath taking but each has a eery dark side and some menace to them. His style is very grotesc and gothic and a few of his works even got denied by disney for being “Too scary for children”. Ive always loved his work and not all are stop motion he works on live action too such as his version of “sweeny todd”, Dark shadows and Alice in wonderland.

I hope to one day create my own stop motion’s with my own style and be able to submerge my auidences into them, I could’nt think of a better person to be inpsired by then Tim Burton.
